More than a million Richmonders and visitors stepped foot on Brown’s Island last year alone – for concerts, festivals, workday breaks and downtown explorations, and school kids with their classes connecting with nature and history in a new way. This island hosts so many events and people every year, is steps away from major employers and is the most popular entertainment venue in the city, but it lacks basic infrastructure such as potable water, flushing toilets, ADA accessibility, and more.

Currently, the island is underutilized as an engaging park space. Richmond has one of the most beautiful rivers in the country and deserves a world class Downtown riverfront park that rivals other cities. The project is a comprehensive plan to transform every part of the island —enhancing components that are familiar to past visitors, while adding many new elements that will create fresh opportunities for recreation, celebration, learning and growth.
