Easy Earth Day Tips for Everyday Impact
Explore Volunteer Opportunities
Many of Richmond’s public space focused nonprofits operate through the support of volunteers, so consider setting aside some time outdoors while helping keep our public spaces maintained and safe.
Take Public Transit
As we celebrate Earth Day, it’s important to recognize the impact that our daily choices, activities and habits have on the environment, especially in the local community. One easy way to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainability is by utilizing our FREE public transportation from GRTC. Downtown's regular public bus service routes, like the 1, 2, 3 and 5, are convenient and accessible. With 15-minute service running from surrounding neighborhoods, our GRTC bus system makes navigating to and from downtown Richmond stress-free and easy.
The GRTC Pulse (Bus Rapid Transit) stops at 14 activity centers along its route with 8 stops throughout downtown. Buses arrive every 15 minutes (or sooner)! The Pulse is the best option to navigate short trips throughout the city’s core and is made easy and free with zero fare through 2026. Did we mention there’s free Wifi on the bus?
Shop Sustainably
By choosing products made from eco-friendly materials, supporting local businesses, and purchasing items with minimal packaging, we can reduce waste and conserve resources. Additionally, buying secondhand items from shops like, renting or borrowing instead of purchasing new, and repairing or repurposing goods can help to extend their lifespan and reduce the need for new products. By making a conscious effort to shop sustainably, we can reduce our impact on the planet and support a more responsible and ethical approach to consumerism.
