Halloween events in Richmond are undoubtedly something special! That highly-anticipated time of year when the leaves begin to change color, the night brings a cool breeze to the air, and the ghouls and goblins make their annual appearance. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly activity or some of the most ghoulish experiences around, Downtown RVA has something for everyone!

Phantoms of Franklin Ghost Tour

Come discover the eerie beauty of Richmond's turn of the century Franklin Street, in the historic Monroe Ward neighborhood. Home to many beautiful landmarks, it's easy to see why spirits of days past would still linger here today. This outdoor walking tour will lead you about 1 mile in 75 to 90 minutes.

Eerie Canal Cruises

Dates Vary (Friday, October 27-Sunday, October 29)

Riverfront Canal Cruises, 109 Virginia Street

Tickets: $6

The Eerie Canal Cruise is a special, three-night only, thrills-filled boat ride geared toward those Older children and adults. The event, on the historic Kanawha Canal, features haunting tales and frightening scenes from Richmond's past! This haunted Canal turned gruesome graveyard will be a nightmare come to life in our 20-minute tours. Canal boats leave every half hour (on the hour and the half hour) from 5-9 pm, with the last boats departing at 8:30 pm. Tickets for the evening Eerie Canal cruises are $6, and all tickets must be purchased online, in advance.

No Stay Should Last Forever: A Hotel Greene Mystery Event

Dates Vary (Sunday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 31)

Mystery fans have the chance to participate firsthand in the action at Hotel Greene. Help the residents and staff of this spooky “hotel” figure out the ultimate murder mystery. While solving puzzles and working with a team, enjoy dessert and drinks. A prize will be awarded to those who can solve the mystery! This event is for ages 21 and up only. John Marshall House Haunted History Tours

John Marshall House, 818 E Marshall Street

Tickets: $15

Become immersed in the haunted history at John Marshall House with a guided tour. These 30-40 minute tours take you through the John Marshall House as you learn about 18th century Richmond history. Listen as guides from the Center for Paranormal Research and Investigation share spooky “true” horror stories from inside the home.

Pridefest Spooktacular Halloween Party

Cover: $10 (Ages 18+), $5 (Ages 21 and up)

Get ready for one of the most glamorous Halloween events in Richmond at Godfrey’s. This Spooktacular party is hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Akeria Davenport and DJ Lez Pop. Music starts at 8pm, followed by two drag shows (10pm and 11pm). A VIP experience with a meet and greet with Akeria is available for purchase on Eventbrite.

You can live forever at this supernatural celebration. Join Fallout RVA for a vampire-themed party night with a DJ, themed selfie booth, and spooky decor and drinks. Vampire costumes are encouraged! Altar America Project

The Altar America Project is a cross-cultural ancestor remembrance celebration inspired by Dia de los Muertos and many other ancestor remembrance celebrations from around the world, held at Art Works in Manchester. A collaboration of The Sustainable Culture Lab and Philanthropy Journal, this year they’ve asked multiple local artists through Art Works to create altars with the aim that the greater Richmond community will see these examples, and become inspired to engage in their own, culturally relevant acts of remembrance. Enjoy music by local musicians and a beer tasting by a local brewery.

Halloween 10M & 5K Run on the Capital Trail

Join the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation for the 10-mile and 5K races, runs, or walks on the beautiful Virginia Capital Trail, starting in Shockoe Bottom.
