Where is Jackson Ward in Richmond, VA?

The historic Jackson Ward neighborhood is located in the northern portion of downtown Richmond bordered between N. Belvidere Street on the west, interstate Insterstate 95 to the north, roughly N. 3rd Street to the east, and E. Broad Street to the south.

History of Jackson Ward in Downtown Richmond

Once known as the “Harlem of the South,” downtown Richmond’s Jackson Ward neighborhood has been home to the US’s first female bank president, Maggie Lena Walker, Hollywood dancing legend, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Richmond’s very own 2nd Street Festival. Known as the birthplace of Black entrepreneurship, Jackson Ward’s history and successes continue to attract and cultivate creative enterprises and businesses while uplifting its surrounding community.​
