Art Works is a full-service art center, and on the 4th Friday of each month they have an art show that is FREE and open to the public. In August, you will see renderings of the James River that depict the essence of Richmond’s greatest natural resource—in photographs, paintings, and sculpture all by Virginia artists. Riverfront Canal Cruises, 139 Virginia St.

Best days and times for a date: In August and September - Fridays on the 6:00 or the 7:00 boat (last boat leaves at 7pm); Saturdays on the 6:00, 7:00, or 8:00pm boats (last boat leaves at 8:00pm) It doesn’t get any more romantic than a peaceful boat ride through Richmond’s Kanawha Canal. Once a tobacco warehouse, the building dates back to 1866, with the interior’s focal point being a three-story atrium with an exposed antique elevator.
