Sanctuary Road tells the story of William Still, who was an abolitionist, historian and conductor for the Underground Railroad. Still is credited with helping almost 800 enslaved African Americans escape to freedom. The performance will also tell the stories of Clarissa Davis, who fled from Portsmouth, and Henry “Box” Brown, who fled Richmond. The orchestra will be provided by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
