This teacher workshop will present historical information and provide an opportunity to discuss current events, including ways that communities try to recover from incidents of hatred or bigotry. Educators will receive lesson ideas and primary source documents to explore the roles that racism and contested history play in white supremacy movements.

Join the Virginia Holocaust Museum; Dr. Mary Johnson, Senior Historian at Facing History and Ourselves; and Shannon Martinez, Program Manager of Free Radicals Project and reformed extremist as we engage in personal reflection, explore strategies for facilitating difficult conversations and receive a toolkit of strategies that promote critical thinking to address the sometimes challenging learning of history in today’s 21st century classroom.
