Join the John Marshall House for a walking tour that will visit four proximal locations in downtown Richmond that illustrate urban slavery into the city’s Early Republic landscape. Examining the realities of urban slavery through the lens of the John Marshall House and pre-antebellum Richmond will help visitors broaden their understanding of American chattel slavery, the system’s relationship with the law, and urban slavery’s impact on society.

The Urban Slavery Walking Tour runs approximately 90 minutes, starting and ending at the John Marshall House. Tour commences at the John Marshall House (818 E. Marshall Street, Richmond, VA). Please sign-in 10-15 minutes ahead of your tour in the Cellar Museum Shop.

Tickets are $20/person; $15 for Preservation Virginia Members; free for children 6 and under. Tickets are non-refundable, advanced tour registration required.
